Professional Activities

Mr. Thomas taught prospective lawyers in the Law Society of Upper Canada’s Bar Admission Course in both Estates and Family Law.  He is a trained Collaborative Family Law lawyer and an Ontario Family Law Arbitrator. Mr. Thomas is also a member of the Estates and Trust and Family Law Sections of the Canadian Bar Association, The Advocates Society and a member of the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners (STEP) having completed the STEP Canada exam route and qualifications in Trusts, Wills, Estate Administration and the Taxation of Trusts and Estates.  Mr. Thomas was also a panel lawyer for the Office of the Public Guardian & Trustee. Mr. Thomas has been asked to and has spoken for the Canadian Bar Association, Ontario Section, on Life and Estate Planning topics and has been on panels in Continuing Legal Education programs in both Family Law and Estate programs. In 2018, Mr. Thomas received a diploma from the Faculty and Board of Trustees of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA) for having completed its intensive training program in Boulder, Colorado in the art of Family Law Advocacy at NITA’s American Bar Association’s Family Law Trial Advocacy Program.

Practice

Mr. Thomas advocates for and helps Clients in all facets of Family, Estate and Trust law matters. Mr. Thomas routinely litigates Family, Divorce and Estate litigation matters. He regularly negotiates resolutions in Family Law and Estate matters, in a Collaborative Process or in the traditional legal model. He also helps clients as a Family Law and Estate Mediator and Arbitrator, solving or determining disputes among separated spouses and Trustees and Beneficiaries.
